The Impact of Monumental Sculpture
We opened this space for dialogue with a reflection on one of the aspects of sculpture that have the greatest impact in society; the monumental public sculpture. We are all used to seeing sculptures, more or less large, in our squares and cities; Few times these works fill us so much that we want to see them again and again, we usually learn their forms and they become a memory. A large sculpture is not monumental, they are two different concepts. Michelangelo’s sculptures are monumental, the latest sculptures by Henry Moore or A. Calder are monumental. All of them generate a presence in their environment, an impact; They are a symbol, they are more than decorative or aesthetic elements. I think this is the reflection that every sculptor should do.
